Drawing is a way of thinking, a form of embodied cognition that combines sensory observation, material exploration, formal and conceptual invention. The Badlands Drawing Research Workshop is designed for artists, educators and scholars who access drawing within their larger creative or academic practices, and who are keen to connect with drawing colleagues across disciplines. The workshop is premised on exploration of place through drawing.
Each day combines field outings to badlands and canyons, drawing experiments, independent studio time at the Circle A Guest Ranch and dialogue around the transdisciplinary act of drawing. Participants will have dedicated time to share their research and studio work, raise questions and engage in conversations about drawing as research. The session holds a maximum of eight; applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
